The Volunteer Information Session is for anyone who is interested in volunteering with the Centre for Newcomers or in the Calgary community.

Join any session. No registration required. Please bring a copy of your resume.

Would you like to learn and practice computer skills? We offer free computer literacy classes at the 
Centre for Newcomers. Content includes an introduction to computers, keyboarding, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
These classes are open to all - refugees, newcomers and citizens of Canada.

Helping eligible newcomers file income tax at no-cost.  
The appointments are only through walk-ins. No phone calls.
Appointment days are Mondays and Thursdays from 10 am – 3 pm
Wednesday from 2 pm – 7 pm (No Tuesdays and Fridays)

What do you need to bring:
A government issued ID and T4 slips for all the jobs you did in 2017.  Any additional slips related to income should also be brought.
Who is eligible:
Those who meet the income eligibility criteria are eligible for this program. This means any arrivals in or before 2017 are most welcome. 
The income eligibility we will be using this year is as follows:
Singles: $35,000
Couples: $45,000
One adult with one child: $39,000
Additional dependents: $3,000 per child
And, as always, no interest income over $1,000.
This service is not available to those who are bankrupt, have their own business/enterprise or who have rental income/expenses. Again, please ensure that you need to come with all T4s and other income related documents. 

This service will be provided in English only. 
What will happen after you book an appointment:
The actual income-tax filing will start on Saturday, March 3 and run through to Sunday, April 29. You will need to come on the assigned day and bring the required documents.

  • Newcomers and Canadians should be eligible to work in Canada to volunteer with the Centre
  • Willing to offer skills, knowledge and time in working with newcomers
  • Agree to observe the Centre for Newcomers' values, policies, and procedures
The Volunteer Development program receives funding from the City of Calgary, Family and Community Support Services
