GET ACTIVE WITH ACTIVE FOR LIFE
Being physically active throughout your life is key to good health and the best way to do that is through physical literacy. Physical Literacy is a journey upon which children and youth, and everyone, develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to enable them to participate in a wide variety of activities.
CFN has partnered with Active for Life, a Canadian not-for-profit social initiative founded by B2ten, and a national initiative created to help parents give their children the right start in life through the development of physical literacy.
"Physical literacy is the motivation, confidence, physical competence,
knowledge, and understanding to value and take responsibility
for engagement in physical activities for life."
Physical benefits aside - from learning how to play a new sport, to building new relationships at their own or their children’s sporting events, or to cheering on Canada’s Olympic athletes, newcomers to Canada often talk of how their involvement in sports makes them feel very much connected to Canadian life. For newcomers to Canada, playing and even watching sports with native or more established Canadians provides the chance to share and engage others about Canada, its culture and its history. The result is learning more about Canadian society and feeling more at home. And when Canadians show interest in the sports newcomers most enjoy, the unifying power of sports is revealed.
Active for Life is rich with articles, resources and activities to help you get started with you and your family's physical literacy. For more information on how both you and your children can get active for life, email email@example.com
