MOM AND DAUGHTER BONDING CROCHET & KNITTING CLUB

THURSDAYS

Join our Crochet & Knitting Club to learn new techniques and work on projects like scarves, hats, mittens, and throw blankets. All skill levels are welcome. Bring your work in progress and enjoy the company of fellow crafters. Completed items can be donated to youth at our annual Christmas events.

ETHNICITY CATERING

EMPLOYMENT TRAINING PROGRAM

ONGOING REGISTRATION

EthniCity Catering and Café is a non-profit social enterprise at the Centre for Newcomers that provides Canadian work experience and training for immigrants and refugees. It provides 10-12 weeks of online and in-person training. Trainees gain hands-on experience in a commercial kitchen, improve communication skills and increase customer service understanding during the program.

 

Our training registration and information sessions are ongoing.

COFFEE AND CONVERSATION

Coffee and Conversation is a free social activity for newcomers and any community members to practice speaking, make new friends, and build social networks and connections.

Join a volunteer facilitator in a supportive and relaxed environment to enjoy a cup of coffee and a chat! This club provides an opportunity to build social skills, improve English, and create strong social connections.

Content includes an introduction to computers, keyboarding, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. These classes are open to all - refugees, immigrants and citizens of Canada. AFGHAN AND VULNERABLE WOMEN’S RESILIENCY

The Afghan and Vulnerable Women Resiliency Project is to empower vulnerable women by providing them with the necessary skills, resources, and opportunities like English language classes and employment-related training to help them become financially independent, increase their resilience, and improve their overall well-being. The program can help women overcome economic and social challenges, build their skills and knowledge, and achieve greater economic independence.

Centre for Newcomers invites you to our free annual Women’s Health and Family Wellness Expo. The expo aims to empower women and improve the family’s overall health and well-being.

 

The day includes informative workshops, fun activities, health clinics, snacks and door prizes.

NEWCOMER

THERAPEUTIC CRISIS

INTERVENTION

ONGOING

CFN's Newcomer Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Program aims to provide therapy support in first-language services for newcomer clients of any age within 24 hours of receiving a referral.

 

As many newcomers won't call a helpline when in distress, this project will provide immediate therapeutic intervention within 24 hours of receiving the referral without waiting for an interpreter.

ENGLISH FOR SUCCESS

AFTERNOON AND EVENING SESSIONS AVAILABLE

Come practise and develop your English skills in a small and fun group setting. Make friends with people from around the world.  Learn more about resources to help you with your settlement in Calgary.​

 

Morning and afternoon in-person classes are available depending on your level.
