VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT

Be part of creating a welcoming environment for newcomers to Canada. Contribute your time, share your skills and create meaningful relationships as you develop a stronger social network and gain a deeper appreciation of Calgary’s diverse culture.

Newcomers and more established Canadians are encouraged to participate in creating a welcoming environment for newcomers to Canada.  Consider any of the various volunteer opportunities.

  • Be a mentor

    • to newcomer professionals through the Peer Mentorship program

    • to immigrant youth who wish to make positive changes in their lives

​

  • Be an English language tutor

​

  • Provide a variety of office support 

​

​

Are you new to Canada and looking for ways to become involved in community activities in Calgary? 
Or are you a lifelong Canadian, interested in volunteering in a multicultural setting?  Volunteer opportunities allow you to be a part of welcoming newcomers to Canada. 



What does the service offer?

  • Workshops on volunteering with the Centre For Newcomers and in Calgary

​

  • A chance to practice your skills, build relationships and expand your network of contacts

​

  • Opportunities in English Language tutoring, computer training, organizing activities, providing office support and planning events


How will you benefit?

  • Make new friends from culturally diverse backgrounds

​

  • Gain experience in cross-cultural communication

​

  • Use your skills in a multicultural context

​

  • Have fun, broaden your experience and participate in Calgary-wide community events

  • Discover the many ways you can start making a difference

Do you qualify?

​

  • Newcomers and Canadians should be eligible to work in Canada to volunteer with CFN

  • Willing to offer skills, knowledge and time in working with newcomers

​

  • Agree to observe the Centre for Newcomers' values, policies, and procedures

​

The Volunteer Development program receives funding from

the City of Calgary, Family and Community Support Services

The Volunteer Information Session is for anyone who is interested in volunteering with the Centre for Newcomers or in the Calgary community.
