Back for a 3rd time, and the first since 2019, CFN is pleased to announce Holiday Season Pop-Up Potluck III with special guest host Julie Van Rosendaal. Get your tickets today at bit.ly/PotluckCFN.
Coming together and sharing a meal is among the most communal and binding rituals the world over. Food is also a great vehicle for sharing culture with people from different backgrounds and this is what makes food so special.
We hope you can join us for some amazing dishes and great conversation, as CFN once again partners with CBC's Julie Van Rosendaal to host another Holiday Season Potluck on Thursday, December 15th, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Centre for Newcomers. For just $25 you can enjoy genuine home-cooked dishes from Asia, the Middle East, Europe and more, and hear about the culture and tradition behind them.
And to our guests, there is no need to bring a dish of your own as we have lined up a number of amazing cooks to supply you with some wonderful dishes for the evening.
A little about our host for the evening, Julie is Calgary's just may be the nicest foodie in YYC and a tireless supporter of the community. From her website below:
"I’ve loved food – and found comfort in recipes – for as long as I can remember. My mom likes to tell this story about three year old me, who asked when I could cook for myself- she told me I could cook myself when I could read a recipe myself, and so I went off and learned how to read by reading cookbooks.
I’ve loved being in the kitchen ever since. Now I get to write about it, teach people how not to be afraid of it, and talk about it every week on the Calgary Eyeopener on CBC radio. I’ve always been interested in the culture of home food, what people make every day to feed themselves and each other. Over the years I’ve learned as much as I can from as many people as I can… I’ve taught classes for 20 years, worked in cheese shops, delis, bakeries, restaurants, I had a catering business and then a bakery, and have been writing cookbooks (11 of them now!) since my first came out in 2000. I write about food for the Globe and Mail and other local and national publications. And I’ve been sharing recipes here since January 2008, but still what I love most is being in the kitchen or at the table.
You can read some of my words and stories here, listen to my podcast here, I try to keep on top of sharing my events here, and if you’d like to chat about anything, you can connect via email."
Purchase your tickets today, as space is limited, and enjoy some amazing international cuisine. The event is located at the Centre for Newcomers, 125, 565 - 36 Street NE, Calgary, AB T2A 6K3 (We are located one block from Marlborough C-Train station).
