Meet Jared: Building HR Experience at Centre for Newcomers

Today, we’re excited to highlight Jared, our Human Resources Assistant Summer Student.

CFN Summer Student Jared

This summer, Jared joined Centre for Newcomers (CFN) as a Human Resources Assistant Summer Student. In his role, he supports CFN’s Human Resources team with a variety of tasks across the organization.

For Jared, the experience has been an opportunity to explore the many moving parts of an organization and see how they connect. He came to CFN hoping to gain experience in the non-profit sector, learn more about the day-to-day work of Human Resources, and better understand how HR supports everyone in the workplace.

Learning by Doing

Among the projects Jared has enjoyed most are reviewing and organizing HR policies and helping advisors with additional tasks that improve office workflow. Through this hands-on work, he is building practical skills while contributing to the team’s daily operations.

One lesson has stood out: taking initiative matters. Jared has learned the value of looking for ways to help and stepping forward when support is needed.

Advice for Future Summer Students

“I would say it’s a great learning experience, and you’ll have a lot of fun.”

Jared’s summer at CFN shows how curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn can turn an internship into a meaningful introduction to the non-profit sector and the important role Human Resources plays within an organization.
