The Centre for Newcomers is thrilled to annouce Iman Bukhari as our Keynote Speaker at 'Bridging Success' - CFN's 9th Annual Fundraiser. Iman is a nationally recognized Canadian leader, researcher, and advocate who builds more equitable, inclusive systems through technology, storytelling, and policy. Her work transforms lived experience into practical solutions that address structural inequities.
Born in Pakistan and now based in Canada, Iman’s commitment to justice began witnessing educational disparities that keep millions of children out of school. As Founder and CEO of the Canadian Cultural Mosaic Foundation—a national non-profit she launched as a youth—she has spent more than 15 years advancing anti-racism and cross-cultural understanding. Her research, including Canada’s first longitudinal hate-incident tracker, This Act Does Not Represent Us, has been cited in the House of Commons and reframed national conversations by converting anecdote into policy-relevant data.
A skilled communicator and strategist, Iman has translated research into concrete policy and practice. Her work guided the City of Calgary’s Multilingual Policy Framework and contributed to the Alberta Teachers’ Association’s Anti‑Racism Resource Hub. Her contributions have been recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, an Immigrants of Distinction Award, and inclusion on Avenue Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40.
Entering a Doctorate of Education at the University of Calgary, Iman is focused on leveraging generative AI to expand educational access for out-of-school children in Pakistan, co-designing culturally responsive, AI-driven learning that centers learner dignity and agency. A mother of two, she balances leadership with lived resilience, serving as a bridge between Canada and the Global South, community activism and academic rigor, and emerging technologies and human rights.
