Giving Tuesday

Writer: David Anthony HoholDavid Anthony Hohol

It’s a simple idea: a movement that encourages people to do good.

GivingTuesday is about hope, about the future, about love and about community. Most people know about Black Friday and now Cyber Monday, but on the first Tuesday after Black Friday, we celebrate Giving. The opening day of the giving season is a time when nonprofits, charities, companies and individuals join together and rally for their favourite causes. In the same way that retailers take part in Black Friday, the giving community comes together for GivingTuesday.

Giving Tuesday is a day that encourages people to give back in whatever ways they can. It presents nonprofit organizations with the chance to raise money to help those in need, a sector that's an important contributor to the economic health and vitality of Alberta. Charities and non-profits throughout the province support the quality of life enjoyed in our province, addressing social needs, providing recreational and leisure opportunities, delivering arts and cultural programs and stewarding our natural environment.

We encourage you to donate on GivingTuesday, Nov 28 or throughout the Giving Season at www.centrefornewcomers.ca/give, to help support our vision and the ultimate goal for Calgary - a community that values diversity, in which people of all backgrounds find and create opportunities to fulfil dreams and participate fully as citizens.
